The 24 Hours of Le Mans

Since 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has established itself as one of the most famous races in the world. In the M24 – Motor Sport Museum, a themed tour invites you to explore all its facets. Step into the starting zone and feel the tension of the drivers as they face the French flag. Then, immerse yourself in the night when headlights pierce the darkness and fatigue puts the body to the test. Discover the pits, the strategic heart of the race where every second counts. Finally, celebrate victory as the chequered flag falls. (From the first lap to the finish, the race offers no respite.)

Scale models

Each edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has seen competitors line up, all driven by the same ambition – to win the world’s greatest endurance race. Some models have become icons of their generation, while others have faded into obscurity. In the “Le Mans in 1/43rd Scale” exhibit, they are all gathered together and faithfully reproduced. From the pioneers of the 1920s to the hypercars of the present centenary, a century of history unfolds in this room. This patiently assembled, collection forms a unique record of the race.

Formula 1

For over 70 years, the Formula 1 World Championship has attracted the biggest car manufacturers and launched the careers of some of the most famous drivers in the history of motorsport. It is the most widely covered motorsport discipline and the one best known to the general public, to the point that it has now become  part of popular culture.

This space invites you to discover the incredible saga of this discipline, from the first single-seaters entered for the World Championship to present-day cars. Through these vehicles, you can see the major technical and aesthetic breakthroughs that have shaped Formula 1 as well as the human duels that have marked its history.

On a global scale, Formula 1 is a stage on which rivalries play out, records are set and titles won in an on-going quest for performance.

The Heroes

From the pioneers of early motor racing to contemporary stars, every sport has its heroes. Some have made history thanks to their numerous victories, others due to records or extraordinary stories. This section presents the faces of those who have captivated generations of fans and highlights the evolution of their driver suits reflecting technological advancements and the increasing demands of competition.

Rally

Rallying, a discipline of the unexpected, demands exceptional driving skills. It takes place far from closed circuits. On asphalt, on gravel or on snow, crews tackle the terrain as it is without a safety net and without practice!

Rallying tells a different story of motorsport. Successor to the first races held on open roads and from town to town, it remains arguably the discipline closest to its origins.

The Rally area invites you to discover this epic journey and the evolution of cars designed to cope with all kinds of terrains, where the quest for robustness, reliability and agility conditions the work of the engineers.

The Workshop

The Workshop is one of the unique features of the M24. It is visible from the permanent visit through large windows and reveals the inner workings of the museum. The cars in the collections are regularly maintained there. Many are still in perfect working order; they are living witnesses to a heritage in motion.

IndyCar

Born from the great American tradition of motorsport, IndyCar embodies speed in its most spectacular form. On legendary oval tracks as well as on road courses, American open-wheel cars push the limits. This space pays tribute to one of the world’s most famous races, the Indianapolis 500 Miles. It invites you to discover the evolution of these increasingly radical single-seaters designed for raw performance. Here, the quest for speed fulfills a need deeply rooted in American culture namely, to offer the public a sensational experience where every lap can upset the course of the race.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a testing ground for constant innovation. This space invites you to experience the race in a new way, through materials and touch. Behind every texture lies a quest for performance. Here, you are invited to touch and discover history through  your fingertips.

This space brings the race to life on a 1:1 scale. The diorama recreates a scene captured in time. Here, motorsport is frozen in a moment of intensity to better convey the atmosphere of a bygone era.
